2012 Hyundai Veloster

The 2012 Hyundai Veloster is a unique type of car. The Hyundai Veloster comes with a third door on the right side of the car, adding more room and an unusual style to the car. The Hyundai Veloster has the smallest Hyundai engine. What makes the Hyundai Veloster stand out are all the electronic features it has, such as:

  • A standard seven-inch multi-function touch-screen display with Pandora internet radio capability,
  • Gracenote display technology with voice recognition,
  • Virtual CD downloading,
  • AVI and mpeg video playback via USB,
  • video game console connectivity with a 115-volt outlet,
  • and Bluetooth hands-free phone system with voice recognition.

The Hyundai Veloster also has Blue Link functions such as, an automatic crash notification and assistance, emergency assistance and roadside assistance. Also with Blue Link, one can lock and unlock the car doors through just a telephone number. One can also use a social networking site to tell people where the Hyundai Veloster is located.

What is really cool for parents (though not for their children) is that Blue Link can inform the car owner when the Hyundai Veloster leaves a certain area and at what time, so not only can sometime find out if their car is gone, they can know what time it was gone (which can let parents know how late their child is up), and if the person driving the car was going faster than the preset speed. Who knew that your car is able to inform you that your kid didn’t listen to you.

With all these cool features, come 2012, you know what car you need to buy (hint: it starts with the letter V).

Ad push prior to the Super Bowl

This weekend marks the official launch of the 2011 Elantra on the AFC Championship game.  Below is a note from our marketing dept. explaining our big presence during the third quarter of this weekend’s game.   Hyundai is also mentioned in USA Today as one of three companies (Anheuser Busch and Audi are the other two) who are previewing/taking advantage of the AFC Championship to get a jump on their Super Bowl ads.

As the 2010 NFL Season draws nearer to a climatic close with its two championship games this weekend, HMA is flexing its muscle by overtaking the 3Q of the AFC Championship Game!  Hyundai has signed on for the big AFC game between the New York Jets vs. Pittsburgh Steelers.   The game is an excellent way in which to announce the arrival of our perennial Pro-Bowl vehicle, the 2011 Hyundai Elantra.  The Championship Game is one of the top five most watched programs of the year {35 million viewers} and provides us with a unique opportunity to unveil the new campaign for the Elantra called “Snap Out of It.”  The distinctive “Snap Out of It” campaign tackles the issue of years of consumer complacency within the compact car segment.  By showing the current doldrums view of the compact car market, the 2011 Elantra stands out from the pack with its distinctive fluidic design, best in class front legroom and 40 MPG.  The 2011 Elantra typifies what it takes to win in the NFL…teamwork.  The sum of the Elantra parts is what makes this vehicle so unique and eye-catching from the rest of the competition, that we do not need any special gimmicks to promote this great package.  It blitzes the audience into snapping out of their current small, bland and uninspiring compact car and demands them to pay attention to the Elantra in a very unique way.  The AFC Championship Game can be seen on Sunday, January 23rdat 6:30 p.m. EST on CBS.  Hyundai has sacked the 3Q for auto-exclusivity to showcase portions of the new campaign by airing two new Elantra spots entitled “Sheep” and “Childhood.” Sheep is a spot that shows how we have become complacent in the compact car segment by not demanding more from our vehicles and accepting what everyone is drives in the segment and the Childhood spot talks about how we have been conditioned from an early age to accept that all compact cars must be cramped.  All of the “Snap Out of it” spots tout that the 40-MPG Elantra is here and ready to become a real game-changer in the category. In addition to the two new Elantra spots, we will also be airing two current Sonata spots to complete the playbook for the 3Q rotation.  To view the two new Elantra “Snap Out of It” campaign spots that will make their debut on the AFC Championship Game, please click on the Marketing Blog link – http://www.hyundaimarketingblog.com/index.aspx.

In addition to serving as Walk Chair in 2009, Mr. Rome will once again be bringing the Hope on Wheels vehicle to the event.

Gary Rome, Sox, Pats help us cope

The world is an awful place these days. Wars, economies crashing and people generally not doing well. There are people who do help us get by. Gary Rome is one of those people.

He backs the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots no matter what.

I think he should be publicly acknowledged and thanked for his efforts. Who knows, without his posters taped to our windows, Jason Bay might not have found his way home.

Thanks Gary Rome.

Light the Night Follow Up

Dear Friends,

Last night was the 2008 Light the Night Walk for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s Disease and myeloma. Thanks to all of you who contributed, it was their most successful walk ever! The Gary Rome Hyundai Team, with Gary matching every donation dollar for dollar, raised over $5000 to help find a cure for these dreaded diseases.

As part of the ceremony, we brought a Hyundai “Hope on Wheels” Santa Fe for children who have survived their battle against disease to hand paint their impressions on. Ten kids from ages 5 to 18 participated in the event and I’ve attached a picture of one of them.

I’ll be back next year with a goal of $10,000 and hope you can renew your commitment to this most worthy cause. If you didn’t get a chance to contribute this year, please click here.

Thank you again,

Cliff Dexheimer and the Gary Rome Hyundai Team

Auto Shoppers Trek to Dealerships

Auto Shoppers Trek to Dealerships

HOLYOKE - Frank J. Liebel drives a lot and needs a really nice car, so he went to a local Hyundai dealership yesterday in hopes of scoring a deal.

Kathleen M. Cashin also was out shopping at an auto dealership yesterday, looking for a new Lexus to replace her old Lexus.

Liebel and Cashin were helping local auto dealers kick off the spring selling season that begins with the traditional Presidents Day sales.

Automobiles weren't the only merchandise on sale. Other retailers from upscale department stores to appliance stores ran special sales to take advantage of the long weekend.

Or, as Milton P. Rosenberg, chief executive officer of Bernie's TV & Appliance, said yesterday, "everybody's off today. So when the customers aren't working, you know what they're doing – they're shopping."

While it may seem counter-intuitive to go to a Hyundai dealership for a really nice car, Gary D. Rome, president of Gary Rome Hyundai in Holyoke, said that quality, safety and reliability ratings for the South Korean automobiles now rival or exceed ratings for the makes that are traditionally at the top of those lists.

Liebel also pointed to Hyundai's extensive warranties, as well as lower prices and good service at the Main Street dealership.

Rome said Hyundai offered special pricing for the holiday. "It's the beginning of our selling season," and the sales are so appealing, people wait for President's Day to buy a car.

Among the Hyundai offers were $2,000 off the Sonata and 1.9 percent financing, he said.

While Gary Rome Hyundai had the usual Presidents Day balloon bunches and a bustle of customers, the atmosphere was a bit more quiet and refined at Balise Lexus, down the road in West Springfield.

Despite the calm, Murray B. Fanning, general manager, said that "we did see a definite rise in traffic this weekend."

He estimated late yesterday afternoon that the dealership had sold about 15 Lexuses since Friday.

The long weekend helps the Lexus dealership, Fanning said. Would-be Lexus owners come in early in the weekend, drive a car, go home and do their research and think about it, then come back Sunday or Monday to buy.

Cashin, of the Housatonic section of Great Barrington, didn't need to think about it. She drove her 2003 Lexus GS300 40 miles down the Massachusetts Turnpike to Balise Lexus to scout out the GS350, with a base price of $47,300.

The older vehicle has "been a sensational car," Cashin said, "and I just thought of upgrading, looking at the new model."

She was deep in discussions with senior sales consultant Marc C. Thompson, who has sold Lexuses since the dealership opened 17 years ago.

Cashin said she expected she would get a better deal because it was Presidents' Day, but she also noted she came looking on the holiday because she had the time.

Fanning said that Lexus, unlike most other makes, doesn't really offer rebates or incentives. Instead, the company offers better leasing and financing options for the Presidents Day holiday.

Fanning said the Balise Honda dealership next door sold 50 cars since Friday, while the Toyota dealership on the other side sold 70.

Over the first two days of the weekend, the Hyundai dealership had sold more than 20 cars and Rome said he expects to sell "well over 50 for the weekend."

Liebel said he's bought cars from the Rome dealership "back when they were selling Nissans."Rome, in fact, predicted that by the time the deal was done, Liebel would have a silver car - again. Liebel said he was thinking of turning in his Hyundai XG350 sedan for its descendant, the new Azera sedan, which starts at $24,000.

Carroll V. Perez, the salesman helping Liebel, said President's Day brings big sales in part because "everybody's tired of winter and they come out and want to change their used cars for new."

Perez, who has sold Hyundais for four years, said about 25 percent of the shoppers on Presidents Day weekend turn into buyers during the actual three-day weekend, "but many come back" after cruising the showrooms.

Liebel, who gets a new car every three years or so, said he doesn't always buy it on Presidents Day, "but I figured it would be a good opportunity to look and see what the deals are."

Rosenberg, of Bernie's, said Presidents Day weekend is a big time for sales, whether it's automobiles or appliances, and, "I think it’s pretty much always been so."

While February might otherwise be a lackluster month for retailers, sales of television sets for the Super Bowl early in the month, and now President's Day sales, help boost revenues, he said. "And the weather's certainly been on our side. We're very pleased with the results," Rosenberg said.
